Hello Friends! I am so glad you’re back for day 2 of Bible Journaling with Deb. As we continue the Bible Journaling Friendship Plan my hopes are you grow closer to God, and you’re able to use the verses in building lasting friendships.
Yesterday’s verse and Bible journaling page were in remembrance of my dear friend James. He’s been with our Savior for a few years now. I still think of him often, with wonders of our much more our friendship would be if he were here. Anyways miss you much James, we shall meet again my dear friend. Below you’ll see a peek at today’s page.
Bible Journaling Friendship Plan
Today’s verse is from the book of Job. Wow! Have you spent much time in Job? I am currently doing a study on it with a group of ladies from my community. We are only into the 2nd. week of an 8-week study, but I feel already this one going to be a good one. Anyways, I definitely recommend Job for a Bible study.
Job 6:14 is God teaching us how we should treat our friends. The verse reads as follows:
Anyone who withholds kindness from a friend forsakes the fear of the Almighty. Job 6:14 (NIV)
Here’s another translation.
One should be kind to a fainting friend, but you accuse me without any fear of the Almighty. Job 6:14 (NLT)
In the book of Job, bad things happen to him. One day 3 of his friends come to visit because they want to comfort him. But instead of giving him comfort they throw accusing statements at him. He resounds with the verse above. Basically he’s saying, you’re my friends aren’t you supposed to be comforting me? He then adds, even if I had forsaken the Almighty you should still be a comforting friend.
As followers of Christ, our first duty as a comforter is to be compassionate to our afflicted friends, to console with them, and show them sympathy in their sufferings.
What does this verse teach us?
So this verse tells us what? A few things actually, we are to comfort friends in need. We are supposed to give compassion and show mercy. These both are an act of religion. A branch of the fear of God; and he that neglects it is so far wanting in it and acts contrary to his profession of God, of fear of him, and love to him.
With that said, it’s pretty clear how God wants us to treat our friends. Like I said before, friendships aren’t always easy. It’s hard sometimes to be a godly friend. But if we keep looking to God’s word when we struggle we’ll learn to be that kind of friend.
Bible Journaling Friendship Plan – Final Thoughts
This is a great reminder of how we should treat our friends, and how we should expect our friends to treat us. I know that I have failed in the past when it came to showing compassion to past friends.
I have always struggled with compassion for others if they aren’t my family. Wait, let me rephrase that. I give compassion but won’t continue to nurse a healed wound. There are a few things I am still trying to fix or actually I have asked the Lord to fix for me.
My Bible Journaling Page for Job 6:14
I found a cute little picture of a little girl helping a little boy. This was the image I used for my page. It’s not personal but it definitely is a good reminder that we should show compassion, mercy, and kindness to friends in need.
I used watercolor pencils for this page.
