Today’s reading for Day 3 of My 40 Day Sugar Fast was some good stuff, and the theme was When Sugar Walls Crumble. I know it’s only day 3 but I am doing good and haven’t had many side effects from the lack of sugar. Other than the headache a day ago, it’s going smoothly. Each time I have an urge to have something sweet I grab a couple of almonds and start talking to God. It helps so much, and the urges, for now, aren’t overwhelming either. For those of you that are doing this fast too, I hope it’s going smoothly for you as well.
Day 3 of My 40 Day Sugar Fast
As you can see from the image above, it was a big note-taking day again. Did I mention that I have always been a note-taker? When I do a Bible Study I normally end up with a lot of notes, some of them get transferred to the margins of my Bible.
Today’s main scripture was Joshua 6:20 – As soon as the people heard the sound of the trumpet, the people shouted a great shout and the wall fell down flat. When I read the verse, I immediately started singing, Jericho walls gotta come down, come down. Which are from one of my favorite songs called Jericho by Andrew Ripp. If you haven’t heard it yet, you’ve gotta listen to it! It’s amazing!
Actually, there was a lot of scripture from Joshua in today’s reading which was beneficial. But first, let’s talk about what Joshua 6:20 meant for me at this stage in my sugar fast. Honestly, at first, and by reading this verse alone it’s hard to see where it fit in this journey. But then I decided to look up ‘great shout’ because that was the word that kept calling me. So in the Bible, a ‘great shout’ means an acclamation of joy or a battle cry.
Finally, after reading more of what Wendy was teaching I got the significance of the verse. Sort of . . . kind of. . . Praising God is something I’ve done throughout my Faith walk. The point of the verse here was to teach us to Praise God, for what is about to come. Using the walls of Jericho signifies the walls of my sugar stronghold. It’s good but what really grabbed me was the other verses being mentioned.
Day 3 of My 40 Day Sugar Fast
It wasn’t the verse of the day that shouted at me, but the others Wendy talks about that did. The first one was Joshua 3:7 when God, starts giving clear instructions to Joshua. But this isn’t the first time God has done this, He did the same with Daniel, Ester, King Jehoshaphat all while they were fasting and praying. So if we ask God to give us clear instructions, He will.
The next verse that pulled me closer was Joshua 6:2-5 which talks about God telling Joshua exactly what he’s supposed to do. Joshua contently listens. If you haven’t read Joshua 6:2-5 you should, God tells him to do some things we might see as odd. But Joshua listened and followed God’s instructions to the letter. We can’t expect to hear God, to get clear instructions from Him if we aren’t listening. So after you’ve made your request to God, get quiet and Listen.
Joshua 6:2 also teaches us to obey, even with the odd – strange requests God was making, Joshua didn’t say Huh? What? Um Really? He just did it as he was instructed to do. The same verse teaches us to never question God’s instructions. We must remember that our Jericho victories are won only when we are faithfully obedient to God. By the grace of God and our faith and obedience to Him. Scripture says, “By faith, the walls of Jericho fell after the people had marched around them for seven days” (Hebrews 11:30)
See what I mean about the other scriptures shared today. Honestly, I probably could have kept going with research and linking verses, etc.
Day 3 of My 40 Day Sugar Fast – Final thoughts
Although I started off slow with today’s study, after I did some research I finally figured out Joshua 6:20 fit into my sugar fast. I loved the other scriptures that were shared today. They had me thinking, writing, and researching I loved it! When I finally said, ok Deb, that’s enough I felt like I was full. Full of God’s word leaving no room for treats.
Wendy also suggested that we write down some questions to ask God. I used most of the ones she suggested and added a couple of my own. I didn’t mention it before but she also ends each day with a prayer, some days I use part of hers while other days I write a prayer on my own. My prayers are always long, I like to talk to God. Today’s lesson was a good one! I’ve also gotten answers already to two of my questions. God is amazing!
