Friendships aren’t always easy, some are short and sweet, while some last a lifetime. Today I want to invite you to Bible journal with me through a Friendship Bible Journaling Plan. This 12-day plan will take us through Bible verses that teach us the Godly way to handle our friendships.
Friendships are blessings from God, he sends us people to become friends with, people to love, and people to help. But sometimes we need a little help on how to handle situations in our friendships. This is where we turn to the Bible to find them.
We will touch in no particular order the following topics as found in the Bible:
Blessings we gain from friendships.
How to be a good friend.
The types of people we should entrust with our friendship.
Friendship Bible Journaling Plan
In the next 12 days, I will share my thoughts on the daily verse and a little about how I spent time journaling that verse. Below are the verses that we will be journaling on. Start anytime you like, I will be starting today 9/18 and working through the verses to Oct. 1, 2019. I will be starting a Fall Journaling plan then.
1 Thessalonians 5:11
I am super excited to be sharing this plan with you in my newest blog series Bible Journal with Deb.
Friendship Bible Journaling Plan
Day # 1 Proverbs 27:9
Proverbs 27:9 NIV translation reads as follows:
Perfume and incense bring joy to the heart, and the pleasantness of a friend springs from their heartfelt advice. – Proverbs 27:9 NIV
I am one of those people that loves to look up different translations to verses that touch me. This is one of those verses, so I looked up the various translations.
My favorite translation is probably The Passion Translation which reads as follows:
Sweet friendships refresh the soul and awaken our hearts with joy, for good friends are like the anointing oil that yields the fragrant incense of God’s presence – Proverbs 27:9 TPT
As I mentioned above friendships are always easy, but there are some that when you’re hanging out with that person you just feel refreshed. It’s like a breeze on a hot summer day, a cold glass of fresh-squeezed lemonade. That kind of friendship comes around once in a lifetime and for most of us, it’s normally last that long too. That’s what this verse brings to my heart.
Take a few minutes, reread the verse, meditate on it and think about that friend that this verse leads you too. What are some of the first things you think of about that friend?
Time to Journal now!
Now that you’ve read the verse, meditated on it and thought about who this verse reminds you of it’s time to start journaling. Remember it’s not how perfect the page turns out, it’s about meditating on the verse. It’s about spending time with God, it’s about learning Godly ways to be a friend.
You can draw a simple flower and write the verse, a field of flowers, or paint the page with watercolors and do an abstract page. It’s all up to you and where this verse leads you.
I was drawn to bright colors and bold shapes when I read this verse it reminds me of an old dear friend. He was vibrant, full of pizzazz and gave off this bright vibe. So my page reflects some of that.

I hope you enjoy this Friendship Bible Journaling Plan, as much as I enjoyed gathering the information for it. God’s word is my saving grace, and without it, I’d be the lost.
A year ago this month I found myself feeling lonely even in a crowd of friends, it seemed like my life had no meaning, and nothing kept me happy. Reaching what seemed like my lowest point, I turned toward what I saw making others happy. . . that is Faith and the promises God so desperately wants to keep.
Over a years time, I have plunged deep into learning everything I possiblitly can about of Savior Jesus Christ. It’s been a life changer and I learn something new every day! There are still moments of lows for me, but I seek comfort in God’s presence and He gives me peace.
As I am growing closer to God, many things are happening in my life. I’ve changed my outlook on friends, and relationships (other than with family). There is an eagerness to build friendships/relationships, excitement to join in fellowship and share God’s truth. Not my doing trust me! This is all God’s doing and ALL the praise and glory goes to Him.
Sharing this friendship journaling plan with you is my hope that you too will find the answers in God’s truth.
Verse to think on
Write this verse down, memorize it, and meditate on it.
I can do all things through Christ which strengtheneth me. – Philippians 4:13 (KJV)
We can do all things through Christ, and all you need to do is seek Him. He’s been lovingly waiting at your right side for you to just tell Him you need Him.
