Hello Loves! I am starting My 40 Day Sugar Fast Journey tomorrow August 18, 2021. Originally, I was going to start today, but I feel I need a day to get ready. Get ready sort of sounds like I am going on a trip and I need to pack. In a way I am, and I’ll explain more in a bit. I’ll also be explaining why I am doing this 40-day sugar fast, and what I expect to accomplish from it. After you’ve read this article and if you feel like joining in please do.
My 40 Day Sugar Fast Journey
Hello everyone, my name is Debbie and I am addicted to sugar. Now, my friends, this is one of the reasons I am starting this journey. The second stems from my inability to do this journey alone. Oh, I’ve tried over and over again. I’d get so far and then the excuses found their way into the scene.
It started with things like why am I doing this to myself, I should be enjoying life and cakes. Then here’s probably my worst excuse yet, it’s the way God made me. Yeah, I went there. Sad, I know but that’s why I am starting this journey. I realized that I had a better relationship with sugar than I did with God and that isn’t how I want to live.
So I am addicted to sugar, and it has become more important than my relationship with God. Ugh, evening typing that out hurts, because in my heart it’s not true but my actions with sugar say otherwise. As I said before I couldn’t make this journey on my own.
This time around I am doing it with God at the wheel, with two books in my hand my Bible, and this study guide. I expect to grow closer to Him and sugar and I will only be a past acquittance. I set my expectations high because I know God will get me through this.
My 40 Day Sugar Fast Journey
Here are a few things I have bought and have done to prepare myself for this journey. Most of everything I am using can be bought on Amazon. I have included the links for the items I am using.
- Buy The 40 Day Sugar Fast book. Get yours here.
- Journal or notebook to document my journey. I decided on my Happy Planner Classic with note filler paper.
- Pens – Highlighters and Sticky Notes. My pens are erasable Pilot FRIXion and I am using Midliner highlighters.
- I have also taken advantage of the free resources on Wendy Speake’s website for the book.
Preparing our house for this no sugar journey wasn’t that hard. I have cleared out all the sugary junk foods that I personally enjoyed, leaving behind the ones that I normally don’t eat. I have also had a couple of conversations with family members requesting that they not share their sugary items with me. Meaning please don’t bring them for me, nor offer to do so.
Mentally preparing myself is going to take the hands of God, and strength from Him. Seriously, I can’t do this otherwise, as strong as I am when it comes to many things, sugary junk food is my downfall. To help with this I have also had conversations with God, real heartfelt conversations.
I will also keep a prayer for strength, faith, and courage that includes scripture in my journal for this journey. Click Prayer for Strength, Faith, Courage for a printable version to put in your journal.
Dear Heavenly Father, please give me the strength to purposely slow down, to quiet my mind and all the noises around me, and to patiently, contently listen for your voice.
“Be still, and know that I am God.” Psalm 46:10
Give me faith in knowing that you are always for me, and you go with me, Lord, help me to remember your promises and faithfulness throughout this journey and always.
“For I know the plans I have for you,’ declares the Lord, ‘plans to prosper you and not to harm you, plans to give you hope and a future.” Jeremiah 29:11
Grant me the courage to replace my sugary junk food with your life-giving truths. Give me the courage to press on even when I feel like I can’t.
“For the Spirit God gave us does not make us timid, but gives us power, love and self-discipline.” 2 Timothy 1:7
In Your Loving Name, I pray. Amen
I belive I am as ready as I will ever be to start this journey, again. This time I will be doing it with God at my side guiding me. All the above items are things I’ve done to help make my journey more successful. We all need different things, or do things differently, and no one way is better than another.
One thing is for certain, you’re here reading this article in search of help and I am here sharing things that might help. In all of it as a faithful follower of our Loving Father, we know He’s got us, we just need to ask for His help. So, yes, it’s like we’re going on a trip, and with God’s help we’ll forget we forgot the snacks.
So sugary snacks, sweet treats and all the junk I’ve put in the place of my Lord you’re in for a real treat yourself. I am back this time armed with God’s truths, and promises so watch out.
My 40 Day Sugar Fast Journey – Final Thoughts
I can feel it in my soul forgetting sugary garbage is going to be so much easier this time. This girl is so ready to spiritually transform while I am phyically detoxing from sugar. And the best part, I’ve got God in my corner this time.
