Hello Loves! I am not sure if this considers me a book nerd or what. But whenever I start a book I read through the author’s notes, foreword, and anything that’s provided before the actual book starts. Of, course I had to do it for The 40 Day Sugar Fast Bible study too. And folks, you won’t believe all the little bits of good stuff I found. Bits of stuff that make you think, I mean really think. Naturally, the note-taker in me started writing straight away.
As I mentioned above I like reading the foreword and all the little bits before the actual book starts. The foreword for this Bible study was written by Asheritah Ciuciu. She participated in the first 40 Day Sugar Fast with the author and Facebook group. She is an author that wrote the book Full: Food, Jesus, and the Battle for Satisfaction after doing the fast.
She writes about questions that she was presented with during the study or in the Facebook group. Honestly, I am not sure but I imagine at some point during the study I might be presented with them as well. So, the first question and actually the first sentence in her write-up is: DO YOU LOVE ME MORE THAN SUGAR? Just like she said, I thought the same thing. WHAT? what kind of question is that. Of course, I loved Jesus, I mean He’s my first love, right? So if that question didn’t get your mind reeling, just wait!
Just as I am getting my mind back on track, she throws another curveball that hits me in the gut. She asks, Would you choose Jesus over sugar? Seriously, what’s up with all these questions. As I am writing the questions and answers in my journal, my mind is just a-going. I am thinking that if I am getting this much out of the foreword imagine how the study is going to be.
This makes me, even more, excite to get started but I am sticking to the plan and I start tomorrow. Apparently, I am a bit too excited because sitting there at the dinner table (yes, I’ve taken over the dinner table again) I shout out what the heck, um. . . yes, yes I would. Little Ernie (my pup) who was sitting next to me on the bench looks up with confusion. Huh?
And then I read her next few questions, 1. Then why are you running for cookies instead of the cross? 2. Why are you seeking solace in ice cream rather than the Prince of Peace? And the last one, why are you feasting on warm bread and not the Bread of Life? And in rolls in the mack truck, and the wrenching reality seeps to the surface. Ouch! so real, so raw!
If I am honest, and I am going to be. At this point, I’ve written down the questions and I am just sitting there staring into space. Ouch! and what the heck kind of bible study is this anyway, summed up my thoughts at that moment. Then I actually answered myself with Um, Deb, it’s real, and don’t be a chicken, go ahead write down your thoughts to those questions. So I do, and I start to draw arrows from my answers to the beginning questions to these answers, and I am heartbroken.
Really! I am a person that believes wildly in “your actions speak louder than your words.” and mine just kicked my bum. In the below picture you can see my answers. Heartbroken and feeling like a phony I continue taking notes onto the next page in my journal all from the foreword section. At some point, I decided that I should probably take fewer notes until the actual study. But. . . well . . . its some good stuff folks.
The 40 Day Sugar Fast Bible Study – more notes
I continue on to the Before you Fast section and jot down some notes. This part is written by the author Wendy Speake, and it starts off with “My name is Wendy and I’m a sugar addict.” This is so very helpful for me, it makes me admit to my problem. I haven’t written those words yet in my journal but eventually, I will.
The author talks about all the things that we need to do with our sugar addiction. This seemed important to me so I jot down the things I hoped to do with my own sugar addiction. It’s an eye-opener to actually read what I wrote. The reality of it all, I looked for all the sugary stuff for comfort, for rewards, when I was bored. It sucked actually to finally come to the realization that sugar had that much of a grip on me. But . . . wait there’s more!
As a Christian woman who has spent many . . . many hours in God’s Word, who knows, has seen, written, and meditated on Matthew 19:26 – With Him all things are possible. Why? and I’ll ask again, Why? haven’t I for one second until reading it here did I not remember what it truly means to trust God, to give it all to Him, to know that the one thing I’ve struggled with almost all my life He could help me with? Why up until just now didn’t I clearly see that With Him all things are possible?
That’s how I’ll end this article with you knowing, understanding, seeing it for yourself one of God’s promises, one of His Truths. That WITH HIM ALL THINGS ARE POSSIBLE. – Matthew 19:26. Write it in your journal at the top of the page, and remember it every time you doubt this journey. It will be the first thing I’ll see each day of My 40 Day Sugar Fast Bible Study journal pages.
The 40 Day Sugar Fast Bible Study – final thoughts
Like I said before I have big – bold expectations for myself from this study. When I start to doubt then all I have to do is remember Matthew 19:26 – With Him all things are possible. We so got this! I mean how couldn’t we, we’ve got Him on our side. Right? I hope you’ll join me in The 40 Day Sugar Fast Bible Study I can tell it’s going to be a good one.
